Coffee & Vanilla [コーヒー&バニラ] Up to now, I read it 'til chapter 16. STORY **I warn you that the male character is so enchanting, such a gentleman does exist, yeah in shoujo manga lol** Risa is starting her college life with new ambition and positive ideas toward her future. She is so dazzling as well as famous for her beauty and kindness. In spite of her charm spreading all over attracting men, she is still the modest Risa like before and will undoubtedly refuse others who want to go out with her that make her titled as 'unreachable'. One day, (finally) she is cornered in a circumstance that lead her to make contact with a handsome and rich man, Fukami Hiroto. It happens when she is getting teased by a pushy stranger and Fukami-san acts like her boyfriend to help her. Will they remain the fake couple status after that incident? STORY IMPRESSION & CHARACTERIZATION It's shoujo and romance manga! Of course, it's going to be freaking sweet and damn interesting to read (for shoujo lovers especially). Almost all of the elements of shoujo manga is represented here well, like its sweet plot, beautiful yet innocent heroine, mesmerizing male character, the clothes. I think it's still lack of "other persons" although there are some characters perturb Risa and Fukami relationship. I like how Risa is struggling to act more mature, more independent. She is independently settle things she has to by herself based on the circumstances of their relationship. As a heroine, she has her own colour of personality to act according who she really is (not easily to get stirred by situation), but still interdependent with love to Fukami-san. She tries to love him as much as she can and the feeling is so pure. It's also her moments of maturity, when at first she develops the feeling to Fukami and get stronger to love in depth. We're also got parts when there are doubts, but then it manages well. The time passes, their love grow intense for more and more. It's not just about making love, but in almost every deed they do they try to think about each other, thus the deeds are the representation of their love (especially when they're together...yeah smut scenes). In another hand, Fukami is still a mysterious person. It feels like the author tries to tease us and act like we are going to be spoiled by the fact and we have to wait for it -sobs- Honestly, this way really works to make the male character more and more irresistible. At first, he only shows his admiration and love by little things. After that, it begins to develop by intense meetings, conversation and concern to Risa. At first too, I wondered if the skinship is only a shallow love, but my guess is proven wrong in beautiful way. I'm amazed by how the author shows their love to each other greatly. ILLUSTRATION / DRAWING Again, the illustration is the perfect example of shoujo manga in many aspects, gladly Coffee & Vanilla has it in a great way. The character design says it all like flawless handsome man, the beautiful heroine, their modest apparel, simple shading and thin outer line, the flow of aura around the characters, other good-looking insignificant others with fewer details, all of it centering to Risa and Fukami. Sometimes too simple environment details to give some more background information still can't beat how great the illustration is, in my opinion. In smut scenes, they aren't just doing something lewd together, but here they also develop their feelings and understanding to each other by conversation, gesture, and facial expression which is rare to find smut scenes as precious as it is. I'm still looking forward to the more complex plot of Coffee & Vanilla manga. By focusing on two only so far, it's already so promising. It can be more exciting and lovable with more challenge. Mousou Telepathy [妄想テレパシー] Up to now, I read it 'til chapter 312. STORY A story of a girl named Nakano who's an exceptional person with her 6th sense. She can read other people mind! Yeah, exactly like you've thought in movie or other novel or manga. Therefore, by her ability, she is suffering by those people thoughts running out of her head. Now, as she is in the 3rd grade that put her in the same class with Toda-kun because of the new class roster, she's going to have his thought running wild which is all of Toda's thoughts are wild fantasies of her. It's such a fun and warm-heartedly story of friendship and love of our 6th-sense-blessed heroine! STORY IMPRESSION & CHARACTERIZATION Having a perfect 6th sense like can read others mind surely is a troublesome ability. It's not fresh-baked theme by putting 6th sense as the ability of the major character which is also the cause of her shortfall. Nakano becomes introvert, shy, quiet girl because of this reason. Her gift makes her unable to live normally. She always gets distracted by others thoughts and prefer to shut herself up rather than making false step towards others. It's funny when actually this kind of supernatural power of Nakano then turns into centering around her daily lives in her 3rd grade class after the class roster. She sits behind Toda-kun, a famous, cool, diligent plus smart and athletic boy. It might turns into instantly admiration for Nakano if she doesn't know Toda-kun's pervert thoughts of her. The laughter comes from so many events like Toda-kun's thoughts and Nakano's reaction, Toda-kun's way to approach Nakano which is a little bit slow because he is having no clue to interact to her while our timid Nakano-san expression is so funny like her resting bitch face. Akira and Manami as the close friends of them help to develop their relationship indirectly like making chances to them so they can talk together at last. Having Akira and Manami here develops the interaction between Toda to Nakano. Akira is more to be minor characters but important because of his deeds to be something like the connector for Toda while Manami has comical personality that getting closer to Nakano-san. Manami, despite her feeling to Toda that lead her sometimes to be a devilish chick, is actually caring and daring person, or should I say she is kind of tsundere. Another character is showed up too lately, the junior of Toda in soccer club who's in love too with Nakano. Rarely found 4-koma manga with amusing love-triangle story and supernatural spice. ILLUSTRATION / DRAWING There is nothing special from the illustration aspect. It's too simple and not cleanly adjusted to the panel dimension. As we know, the format of 4-koma comic-strip manga is commonly 4 panel box in equal size ordered from top to bottom which is not changed and vary like normal manga. The problem lays to its compatibility of the drawing and story. Sometimes there's too much dialogues or story need to be narrated within 4 box that makes the font for its explanation becomes too small and not convenient to read. It's usually happen when Nakano's ability is on the spot and she is reading others thoughts and so many bubbles of others thoughts appear in bubbles that fill the panel box. It also happens when there's an idea of character's feeling or point of view represented in a chapter (4-panel boxes only) which rather needs big amount of explanation. However, there's still light in the illustration aspect. The drawing is using colourful tints to show how lively the thoughts are. If you're not accustomed to many colours in one panel, you might find it very disturbing. But, as soon as you keep on reading Mousou Telepathy, you'll know the colourful bubbles they're using in order to express character's thoughts are commendable method. Because the setting of it mostly in the school ground, there aren't much difference when you flip or scroll from chapter to chapter. You'll be offered a classroom as background with other insignificant others, pairs of table & chair, and the conversation bubbles when it's focusing on characters' ideas. However, when they're out of the school ground the illustration can be so damn great for Mousou Telepathy. It feels like it's changing into something more in an instant. The characters dress more lively and modern despite how so immature they look like at school. I like the style it tastes so fresh and fashionable. (Rate: 7) Pros:
